Hi guys. This is an old Sears motor by Tecumseh. I don't know what it would have been called, the tank is weathered so bad. The "Sears" S/N is 5C-152238 and the "Sears" chassis number is 217-58521-0. The Tecumseh tag has two numbers on it. T642-160 and 7572522. Does anyone know anything about this motor? I believe it's about a 3hp. It's a single cylinder, air cooled motor. I can get it to run easily for about 3 or 4 seconds by spraying pre-mix into the carb throat. I replaced the fuel line from the built in fuel tank to the carb and it flows freely when disconnected from the carb. Any ideas on how to tweak the carb. so this thing will run? I have the carb off right now and soaking to clean it out. Thanks for your help!

1970 5Hp. Tecumseh powerhead, Eska leg. Probably a common Tillotson carb, easy to find a kit. A lawnmower dealer can help with powerhead parts, have the tag numbers ready.

www3.sears.com might have printable online parts diagrams for that motor. ;)

Willy, could you tell me what this motor would have been called. I know there were many sold at Sears, Ted Williams, Gamefisher, etc.... I'd like to get some decals for it, but I don't know which ones to get.8)

BTW, I found all the parts I needed on the Sears website. Thanks for the link.

You got me there. Could be Game Fisher, Ted Williams, or even just Sears. McCullochs and Eskas were Ted Williams in the 60s, then Eskas and Forces were Gamefishers.

Well, I'm almost done with this one. I wasn't interested in making it look like it was new, I don't know what color it's supposed to be anyway. I know I went crazy with the color, but I just used what I had leftover from a gas tank refurb I did.

Here's the motor the way I found it. $10 at a garage sale where I also found 2 '50's Johnsons for the same price.

Here it is now, after a carb rebuild, lower unit re-seal, and a clearly amateur paint job.

I put maybe $30 in this motor including it's purchase price. I've got it running great. I think I'll sell it to pay for the Johnson refurbs I'm attempting.

Thanks Willy for your help pointing me in the right direction to obtain parts!
