Sears Ted Williams carb. rebuild question

I have a Sears TW 7HP motor. I bought a rebuild kit for the Tecumseh carb. The problem is that the old needle had a Viton tip and an inline spring, and the new needle is all metal and uses a rubber inlet seat and a clip. The new needle and seat arrangement is longer than the old needle and so the float doesn't hit it squarely. So after a while if the float falls too far down, the needle gets stuck on the way up to the seat, and then the carb. floods.
So what can I do? All of the rebuild kits use the new needle arrangement. Do I need a new float, and are they available?
