2000 Triton TR20 with Yamaha 200 HP fitted with SeaStar Hyd Steering

This is my 1st boat with Hydraulic steering so all is failly new to me. Here is the History...

Hit the throttle come out of the hole and boat pulls hard to right, takes multiple rotations of wheel to get straight and have very little steering response. Shut it down and check fluid, very low, fluid topped off, steering now responsive and does not pull on hole shot or drift.

Problem I have now is an occassional slip or skip in the steering. Not sure if this is normal and I am being overly cautious to make sure I have corrected original issue. While on plane and steering I will feel an occassional slip in the steering. Feels like the wheel jumps or skips 1/2 inch in the direction I am turning with no pressure then pressure again.

Air in system or other problems?

Thanks in advance for help!

could be air in the system.
when you bleed and top off, make sure fluid is not rusty.

Re: SeaStar Steering Troubleshooting

Sounds like air in the system, Its a pain to bleed but its easy on the pocket book, Check for leaks, call sea star they have a warranty on most of the parts.
