Hello all, great board you have here. I have been looking for a new boat for about 3 monthes now. I would like best of everything which I think deck boats offer, I have three kids and we like to travel, fish, ski, and have guests.

I had been looking quite close at the 5.0 merc MPI seaswirl 217 deck boat (2007) but just recently learned they are no longer makeing the deck boat and bowrider lines.
anyone have any info?
should I still buy it?
Opinions on seaswirl?
I had originally looked at the Tahoe but I am not so sure any more

thanks for your input and thoughts

they both are comparable boats, pick the one you like the layout the best. 5.0 will do nicely with either boat. i have a 23' chris craft 230 deckboat with 5.7. manufacturers drop lines, occasionally, following an economic trend. getting too much product, in a line that may take a down turn, due to economy. i will say on a deck boat, a head is mandatory, whether a port a potty, or more elaborate.

Thanks, for your input, The dealer has assured me the warranty will be fine. They also said the reason for the discontinuation was so they could better focus on the "Striper".

Personally I like Seaswirl much better than Tahoe. So the Seaswirl would be my pick, even if they are no longer making that model.

Woodee, I have a '98 21' SeaSwirl Striper Dual Console outboard model. It has good quality construction. A couple of unusual features is that they foamed under the gunwales, and between inner and outer hull, in additon to all the usual spots. It makes it tough to snake wires, but makes for a very strong boat. Also, it appears that places on the hull that you might want to attach things with screws, the manufacturer has installed a wood core. Under the gunwale and on the side panels are two such places that have this core. I cannot believe they need it for strenght since the glass is quite thick in those areas as well.

it is not unusual for foam to be under the gunnels. there has to be "so much" to meet the coast guard regs. that is just one of the places they put it. to give you more usable areas, else where.

I think you are looking @ a fantastic boat for you and the family. I have a 2000 195 BR Seaswirl and I would'nt have it any other way (unless I had lots o' lots o' money). My two boys love to Ski, tube, kneeboard, etc, and the boat has plenty of power for all the fun. We have occassionally been out on the lake in windy conditions and she handles extremelly well in the rough waters. good luck with your search and happy boating.

That's great to know!
I am leaving right now for a local fish and boat show and then I am going to see the dealer with the seaswirl. If I can swing it then today is the day.
:D I am looking at 35k taxes and trailer in. 2007, seaswirl 217 deck boat 5.0 merc brava with full bimini enclosure.
It does not have a head but it does have the change room under the driver so I guess we could add a porty
