Re: seat and helm rib install question
Hello all,
I recently bought a 1994 Zodiac YL 380 R with new tubes. I am having a seat/helm fabricated at a local SS shop ( not going to pay $700+ to buy it). Question is how do I attach it to the floor. Are there certain 'reinforced' mounting areas? With no access under floor can I just screw and use adhesive?
Any help would be great.
Thanks
I had a 16' Pro-line Zodiac RIB from the same era (mid 90's). I was with the dealer when he rigged the boat, and asked if he could shift the center console 6" toward the starboard side, to allow a wider walkway on the port side. He said it could be mounted anywhere I want, as the deck was heavily built, and could handle any installation. After positioning, he drilled several pilot holes, 4-5" apart, filled them with sealant, and fastened with ss self-tapping screws. In 14 years it didn't budge, and no screws loosened. I imagine your YL is just as sturdy. Of course, you could cut a hole for a sealing circular access port or two if you wanted to reach inside and use nuts and bolts instead, but probably not necessary, IMO.
Give careful thought to a neat way to run the steering and electrical cables. You could go thru the deck, of course, but consider passing all cables thru a length of white 2.5" PVC pipe that simple lays on top of the deck, close to the right tube. Maybe not as stealth, but easy to access cables if ever a problem.
