Seat foam selection and snap caps question....

Hi, I am in a process of getting materials needed to redo the interior of my newly acquired boat. I found the seats and vinyl I want in it. I will need to replace wood on the bow seats, which I plan on using treated plywood (any better ideas?). Now, the question is what kind of foam I need to use for the seats/backrests? I went to Jo-Ann fabrics and they had some foam that is green, will this do?

The second issue I have is the snap cap screw covers. Can I get ones covered with vinyl like factory or are plastic ones the only ones available? Is there ones that I can make with same vinyl I have? I've seen all kinds of plastic ones but none like original ones. Thanks.

i use 2" foam just the regular off white stuff. pressure treated eats metal fasteners. use exterior and paint first.

That's good news I need a few 1/4" thick pieces for the backrests so I don't have to buy a 4x8 sheet :D. What kind of paint would you recommend? Would any kind of exterior wood paint work?

Nah, he'd have to charge for that :)

Just my 2 cents worth, Jo-Ann fabrics does have a type of foam meant for patio furniture that would probably work very well for boats. Expensive, though.

When I redid my seats, the upholsterer just re-used the old foam. The wood was rotten, but he just steamed the old foam and it was OK. Foam gets expensive and if you can re-use the old stuff go for it.

Have a great day,

Rob.
