I'm looking at getting something like a Lund, Smoker Craft, Lowe, aluminum open plan fishing boat. I would like to know a couple of things.

1. Are there pedestal seats that fit into the floor, that are benches? Something a wife/girlfriend could lounge around in? All of the seats I see are single pedestal only. Doesn't something exist where somebody could lay around in?

2. A typical boat of this nature, with an elevated front floor, side steer. Can I pull a kid in a tube? I know as long as the motor is powerfull enough it would, but can I attach a rope properly. I don't really see any difference between some of these typical fishing boats compared to a "Fish-n-Ski"? I'm not really sure what a "Fish-n-Ski" technically is compared to those that are more fishing oriented.

Basically my son and I like to fish, but I'd like to be able to pull him around on a tube if he wanted. I could also go fishing with the family more if I had a seat situation where my wife could lounge easily. Most of these boats I'm looking at, have the hole in the floor for the pedestal seat. But she won't want to sit upright on a boat for many hours...

Re: Seat options

On the skiing issue I have skied (SP) behind a 14' Valco Aluminum fishing boat with a 25 horse so I think you will just have to give it a try and see if the boat is up to it.

On the seat issue I have not seen anything of what you talking about but building a seat in a boat is a very easy thing to do. On my fishing boat I enclosed the bow and put a pad on it and covered it with vinyl and made kinda like a sun deck for the lady. It also was hinged so I could use the empty space underneath for storage. If you are somewhat handy I think you can accomplish whatever you want.

You may want to leave the girlfriend at home when you bring the wife.:D

Re: Seat options

the boats you named are mainly fish design. you really need to get more into a fish n ski, bow rider. or go pontoon, fishing seat up front, lounge in stern. with good power for towing.

I bet you could adapt any of these bench seats to mount using a dual-pedestal set-up.

Re: Seat options

I think I might just try to adapt a bench seat and use 2 brackets to mount on 2 pedestals. I can mount the brackets on the bench on my own, right? That way I can have her loaf around on the back.

The reason I'm trying to stay with a boat of this nature is for ease of towing. I won't tow a pontoon around every day I go fishing, I've thought about the bowrider but not as easy to fish out of...
