Truely sad and tragic event. I feel terrible for the father, but would say that the only way anyone can learn from this event would be to have more information. The boat came out of nowhere while the father was "putzing" around the corner - I could see this in a city road crossing, but it just doesn't make sense to me out on the water. Something else must be missing from the story.

What a tragic story...seems like some folks are in a big hurry to get where they're going, on the water and on the highways...

This is an odd set of circumstances and I'd be curious to hear more details. Obviously non of us armchair captains can really speculate on what happened, particularly without seeing the location of the crash. It says they were fishing near a bridge. Since passing under bridges dictates you run at 'no wake' speeds, it would be odd for a high speed accident to occur under the bridge. It isn't completely clear what obstructions prevented both boats from seeing each other.

Tragic and my sympathies go out to all involved.
