When I bought my '82 Grady White the closed cooling system had been removed. During the restoration I removed the two risers to see if the gaskets had been changed between the exhaust manifold and the risers to cool the engine. They wern't so I had to clean all the scale in the risers to make them flow and cool the engine. Also put correct gaskets on. What kind of damage might I incure with contiued use of cooling the engine with seawater? Upon returning home I flush the engine for about ten minutes with fresh water. I can find a good used freshwater system for about $250. Thanks

You can see how the hoses were re-routed.

Cleaned corrosion out of passages including the "pee" hole at the back.

Don't really know. When I got it in August 2008 the last hull decall was from 1995. Took two years to restore and finally got it in the water Septeber of last year. Had it out about a dozen times.

Here's link to restoration if interested. http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=275835

Oh boy, here we go again. Looks like several other "conversions" done this year. None worked.
Somebody bypassed the cooling system without having a clue what they were doing. It will never work like that with that thermostat housing.

That Tstat housing is designed for log style manifolds in a raw water cooling system, (Not closed cooling).
Compare the hoses in the two

Here is a picture showing how that thermostat housing should be hooked up.

It works just fine! For testing I knocked the guts out of the thermostat and it runs "all day long" at a nice 140 degrees after warm up. It worked so good I never put a new thermostat back in. We don't get cold winters here in central Florida.

Here's a little proof from last week.
