25hp johnson 86 model(electric start tiller model)-poor low speed performance. Just checked coils per manual-one read 268 the other 270-manual says 275+50(275-325??) also checked the charge coil and it tested 600-manual says for electric start it should be 475+75(475-550)correct????? I need to purchase three coils?????Just checking with someone before I spend money on parts????

I doubt it. your numbers are close enough to work. what is your actual problem ? its usually a fuel problem rather than ign on a CD type system. usually a CD system works or it dont. can you determine if the problem is a rich running or lean running? find the DVA adapter to fit your DVM and test the pack output voltage to the coil primaries. or find someone with a KV tester and test the secondary output voltage. with decent plugs you should see 5-8 Kv at the plugs. if you do its not ign. its a quick way to eliminate ign system failures.
can you describe poor performance at low speed better ?

DVA adapter? KV tester? The engine has always ran great at WOT and starts and idles fine but at low speeds it has always ran rough-never smooth. When twisting the throttle it will finally smooth up and take off when the cam roller leaves the armature plate. Did a carb kit(carb was very clean inside). Runs exactly the same. New plugs(gapped at 40). Did a cam roller adj. No help. Replaced fuel lines-no help. Checked fuel pump screen-clean. I've owned it about 8 years and it's always ran this way. Now I've noticed it spits water until about half throttle then almost quits-some trickles out the two holes about a foot below the normal water discharge. Resumes normal discharge when you back off throttle. Occasional white puffs of smome. Wondering about head gasket now?

I would treat your two problems.
you dont have a single one.
you have a cooling system issue as well as a fuel issue.

MP,
Have you been able to figure out anything regarding your water discharge problem yet?
