Will be picking up a 50hp Merc this weekend.
Too large/heavy and awkward to put in the Blazer.
Will put it on a flatbed trailer with a plywood deck.

Now, how do I secure it to the trailer?

Don't want it sliding or bouncing or getting scratched up.

So, who's got ideas on how I can secure it.
Anyone have a plan on how I could use the motor mounting holes and bolt it on?

My thinker is not working, help me out.

Maybe rachet straps will work.

Yup quick and simple.
Wrap it moving blankets first.

Put it in a box filled with styrofoam peanuts, avaliable from a local Ryder or U-Haul dealer.

Build an outboard stand that will lay down at about a 20 degree angel.

Bring a few 2 x 4 blocks and a screw gun. Place padding under the motor and screw blocking in around it then use straps.

I bleeve you can just strap 'er down with a couple straps. throw a folded up blanket under her for comfort (tee hee). still don't feel real secure, attach a 2x4 to the trailer floor on either side to prevent lateral movement.
[edit----sorry Bob from now on I'm going to read first type second---should've just said "what bob said"]

She will hit her head. Its a baby Blazer, not a K5.

Like the idea of a motor stand.
Will try to fabricate one.
Maybe half of one, to be finished with wheels, when I get it home.

That way I can bolt it on using the motor's mounting bracket.

Will be kind of like a factory shipping crate, without the box around it.

How about an empty 55 gal. plastic drum. Pad the motor inside, and then strap the drum to the trailer.

No, no, no folks.
He said it was a Blazer, right?
Just use the mounting holes and attach it to the tailgate.
See a fishing hole on the way home, no problem, fire that baby up and away you go.8)

Re: suggestions, Secure outboard to trailer for transport.

Some very good ideas here, especially the hood and the tailgate.

You guys with the little plastic propeller in the receiver hitch.... ha ha ,,, you got nothin on me !!

Hmmmm, well, no the guy has offered me the boat as well.
But I just sold 3 boats, don't think I need another one.

Well, maybe if I bought it and resold it in spring.
Do you all have a guess as to how a 35 Evinrude would push a 14' Larson?

He wants $900 for:

""14' larson fish/ski. Cuda 168 fish finder.cd player.2-back to back seats, and 2-pedestal fishing seats.6-rod rod holder.hook ladder,2-6gal fuel tanks, bilge pump, transom saver, post guide-ons,and 2-mounted rod holders for trolling. She has no leaks, and the treated floor is only 4 years old.""

Buying the whole rig would save me the hassle of trying to remove the engine in the guys driveway and securing it to the trailer for the ride home.

Any thoughts?
Think my 35 rude will plane it out with 2-3 people in it?

Should I even consider it?
I don't need or want it.
Probably easier to sell my 35 Rude separately, without an old boat attached.

I beg to differ!

Now you are beginning to make some sense!

But I don't need to have $900 tied up in a boat. Without a motor, it will be difficult to sell in my area.

When we brought a 50 hp johnson home we just drained fuel and oil and layed it on its side on top of a blanket. Take the cowling off and run a strap from the engine lifting tab to the left and right angled slightly foward. then wrap a strap around the lower unit and run it to each side angled slightly backward. this wont let it go forward, backward, left, or right.

Sadly, I have done this (no straps though)...only had to come out of the woods and up to the house...
