I interviewed for a job lst week and was offered the job, pending a security clearance. I was told that all of my answers have to be within one month. I have to list all of my jobs, in the last five years, where I lived in the last ten years, all misdemeanors(sp) and felonies, including speeding tickets. I have to list any time that I was not employed. I worked off and on for a car dealership while I was going to school, that company is now closed! <br /><br />This job will probably double how much money I currently make and has a great benefits package. I really do not want to be denied for the job because I was two months off on when I moved, or when I quit a job. How in the world can I find out this information about myself? I don't care if it costs me $50 or $100 as long as it is accurate. I was told at the interview that, what is on the background is not as important as me telling the truth. Sheesh, no pressure there to remember exactly when I moved or changed jobs!<br /><br />If anybody knows of somewhere that I can request the information from, please let me know. Thank you!

Give it your best guess on the ones you dont know for sure with an explanation of the guess, most of it can be found in your past income tax records (if you still have them)

Old canceled checks will have your old address. Request copies of utility bills for time frames in question.<br /><br />Good Luck

Tax returns with w-2 will track your payed employment. Try your local un-employment office, your SSAN will track your employment due to employers are required to report wages earned to them.<br /><br />I have been through multiple clearance checks (both in the military as well as the civilian sector with my most recent being completed 5 months ago) and some much more intense than others. They are now taking as long as 6-8 months from the govt. <br /><br />If you honestly are not accurate and dates are off a bit that should be okay.... as long as you are honest.<br /><br />As far as companies being closed I have had that happen too. Contact DMV, look at your school transcripts.... it is a slow prpcess but I am cofident you will get through it.<br /><br />Now, if you spent suspicious time abroad, have alot of contacts outside the US, or have any records that reflect problems with moral turpitude.... those slow things down.

Don't make up dates. If you only know the month and year, give them that.

Unfortunately I've been gone for the last two years because of something stupid I did as a fresh college grad, so my background checks don't go smoothly. I just am upfront with them, I tell them that all I can be is honest. I was offered one job over the top 50 that were interviewed (having a felony on your record isn't the end of the world) but it wasn't something I wanted to do, so I turned it down. I'm now working (or will be soon, I'm actually waiting for a security clearance myself at the local airport) at the place I was working before I had to go away for a while.<br /><br />Just be honest, if you don't know, you don't know, ya know?

A number of years ago I went through a background check for a job with the NY State Police. Just be honest & give the information to the best of your knowledge; they will probably ask you about anything they want more info on. Just be honest and up front in providing info and that is what they are looking for, I would think. Good luck!

Zach - the way you explained it here was it!!! It's honest and as good as it get coming from memory. If anyone wants to spend the time going into your background they will only discover data that is consistent with that explination.<br /><br />Good luck with the job. A childhood friend listed my folks as references on his clearance app. Dad and Mom were a little surprised when the FBI came asking questions about him My friend got his Q clearance for the military and after the his service time, eventually was on the presidential detail. I hope background checks are still as thorough and weed out undesirables.

google a company called factual data. They may be able to give you a report that will have it.... if they help individuals I don't know, it's a company that businesses use to do thorough background checks.

You are entitled to a free credit report once a year. They will have all your addresses and maybe a few extras. Mine did. It's a good idea anyway so pull it and get your facts together.

Thanks for the replies guys. I am going to turn in the app. in the morning. I went by yesterday and talked to them yesterday, the guy told me to just put down the dates as best as I could and as long as I wasn't more than six months off, it would be ok. He also told me to put down any tickets that I thought I may have and give approximate dates, as long as they didn't think I was trying to hide anything, it would be alright.<br /><br />This is not a top level clearance.........yet! They are just doing a fairly thorough background check to see if I have anything to worry about, because of some of the computers and networks that I will be working on. They said they may have to do a different clearance later. <br /><br />My credit report does not have addresses for the last ten years. Thanks Joe, so do I!

They called me today and "officially" offered me the job. My security clearance came back fine. They offered me what I asked for in pay and a full benefits package, I should have asked for more money! I will start on the 15th of May. I am excited about the opportunity, it will be a challenge, I will be managing 70 workstations and a large server, I will be the only IT person onsite.
