Hi Gang..I was also given a Johnson 5.5 hp, CD-13 (I think) and the pull cord wouldn't budge, I would like to "try" to get it running again.
I read a lot of threads but to no avail..I poured oil in it and let it sit for a few weeks, no luck...All help is appreciated.
Quite partial to restoring old motors.

Many years ago they came into the shop with the same problem.----Often they where freed up with a wrench on the flywheel nut.------Try it and be gentle with that approach.----Strap wrench on the flywheel also works.

I would remove the powerhead to see if the problem isn't the lower unit.

If its in the powerhead, pull it apart. Those 5.5s have aluminum connecting rods and they do NOT like to be torqued on, as happens when you start wrenching on the flywheel to loosen it up. The rods can bend or break. You can put flat spots in the bronze bearings. Best to pull it apart and go from there.
