OK Guys I have in my possession a 1987 25 hp merc that has seen better days, it looks to be almost 100% complete except for an air cleaner/silencer missing. The motor is frozen up. I have poured Mystery oil in the spark plug holes and in thru the carb, What do I do now to get it unstuck?????
It has been sitting in a garage for several years. The butterfly in the carb is also frozen

Re: Seized Motor

Leave it for at least a week to penetrate through the rust then put a bar on the flywheel nut and try and turn it over with the plugs out. Don't jerk it, use steady pressure. If you're straining then you're trying too hard-put more oil in and leave it for another week. Once it starts moving a bit add more oil and let it soak again. You can't rush unsiezing a motor-if you do you may score the bores and ruin it.

Take the carb off and dump it in a bucket of diesel-that'll penetrate the crud in the linkages and help free it off.Clean it with degreaser then strip and rebuild it.
