seized steering system

I have heard that in some boat configurations the motor must be removed to get cable assembly out. Did this just suddenly stop working or has it been sitting for a while. ...Maybe there is a mechanic malfunction (ie something came lose or elsewise binding) rather than the cable being frozen. I'm no expert but guess there is a better lube for the application than WD40. Also, try disconnecting the cable from the motor so you can isolate the cable being the problem rather than the pivot on motor. Mine (Honda) is very tight and the problem is in the motor pivot.

Depending on your boat design you may have to remove the engine in order to get enough clearance to remove the cable. The problem is in either the steering system, the engine steering tube or the engine swivel bracket(pivot).

Avalon, do you have any experience with Hondas corroding at the engine swivel bracket and becoming hard to steer? Mine is very difficult to turn and the problem is at the swivel.

I believe there are some bushings in there. Do you think taking this apart and cleaning it will fix the problem?

If the problem is in the swivel bracket...Taking it apart and cleaning it should alleviate the problem.
