could someone tell me what the symptoms of a seized pot are on a 1982 115hp i/6

heres what happened
sailing along nicely at WOT rev count at 5100 doing 55knts sounds lovely stop for a while engine off
went to start her and she is turning over as though the battery is very weak but every now an then turns over fast tries to fire but then doesnt
there was no bang or anything but the battery dial reads good battery trim up an down works as fast as it always has i am completely stumped cant get to her to do a compression test for a while
so what are the symptoms of a blown piston

Re: seizure

first, check all battery cable connections. if they're all tight and corrosion free, it sounds like a bad starter. I'd pull the plugs and see how it spins over then, and do a compression test while they're out.

Re: seizure

just an update with 2 questions

1: with the sparkplugs out she turns over really fast. why when i start to put them back in 1 by 1 it seems like the battery is dieing again

2: 5 pots are reading at 115 and the number 3 pot is reading at 95 could this be the cause of why the battery is turning starter motor slowly and could it be excessive carbon or the rings on the way out

all the electrical leads are fine the battery is good and charged why is this happening i dont want to go and spend on a new starter motor if its not that could it be the solonoid?????? and if so what can go wrong with it????

Re: seizure

Check ground and power cable on the starter itself. If the starter and engine do not have clean connections it can cause the starter to turn slow under load, due to the starter not getting proper amps.

Re: seizure

the yellow wire going from solenoid to starter is not 100% tight at the solenoid end but it dont seem to want to tighten anymore the bolt to hold it on (on the solenoid side) just keeps spinning when putting tightness on it would this indicate time for a new solenoid

Re: seizure

Sounds like the wrong bolt. Add a washer or two and try it.
