Selecting an Auto Inflating PFD.

Does anyone have any experience with either of these?

Onyx A/M 24 PFD Regular or Delux.

The Delux sports Pockets, D-Rings and a Padded harness.
Are the features on the Delux useful or do the just get in the way and add weight?

The delux looks pretty cool to me, I think for a few bucks I would get that. I was looking for the buoyancy rating on them but I don't see it listed. If the delux had more buoyancy that would sell it for sure. I guess I would have a question about what would be safe to attach to a d-ring? You would want to make sure it would in no way affect the opertation or buoyancy of the device. However, wearing either one of these is the on-the-water version of not smoking.

Clipping something to the d-ring won't effect buoyancy any more than clipping it to your belt.

But the are there so you can clip on an epirb, strobe, flashlight, or kill switch lanyard.


By the way epirbs have gotten pretty cheap in the last few years.

I believe all the Auto inflatables are going to have the same minumum required 22.5 lbs+ of bouyancy.
The determining factor is the 24 grams of CO2 in the cartridges.

Most of the common Foam Filled Type III's have the minimum 15.5+ lbs.
So that is a 50% increase.

22 lbs. That is a lot of float! Even for my fat head!

You might want to consider how easy it is to find the re-arming kits in your area.
