Selector shift water pump impeller replacement

Hi all
Getting to the pointy end of the recomissioning of my 68 lark x 40hp
Electrics done, Carby done, now I want to replace the water pump impeller
Is there a trick in removing the lower leg without damaging the shift wires.

Sometimes the wire harness will get corroded in the housing, use a small screwdriver and work some lube into the housing around the wire harness. Make sure to attach a string or something to the wires so you can pull them back up, lube up the harness where it goes through the housing with a good layer of grease.

is there any special methodology for resealing the wiring harness to stop water getting in once it is all back together.
