Hello New to the forum and new to boating period! I just bought a '67 Lone Star Del Ray (Chrysler) And it came with a '69 55 hp Evinrude Triumph. Needless to say the motor looks BAD most of the wiring is frayed and I have no idea if it runs or not but I can turn the flywheel and the prop as well but sine the boat is a project I really dont have the time or the money to try and put the time into trying to get the motor running if it does at all. Other than the wiring everything else looks good for a '69 so is it worth putting an add up to sell it or just take it to the scrap yard? And exactly what should I sell a motor like this for if I do put it up for sale? I added a few pictures of the motor. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I know the sticker on the motor says Ohio outboard motor 1976 but the title has it as 1969.

I hate to see any old motor scrapped. If nothing else, sell it for parts. Where are you located?

Sorry about the pic size. I'm in Parma, Ohio (Cleveland Suburb). Another question about he motor. If It gets sold does how much of the bracket/mount that attaches the motor to the transom go with the boat? I realize thats probably a silly question to some but remember I'm a total novice to this.

dont take it to the scrap dealer...he wont give you $15 for it by weight.

take it to an old outboard mechanic...and get an IOU for a future favor.

there are lots of good parts on that motor and if you have read around here, you would see guys have motors much much older that they are tinkering with and need parts for.

That sounds like a good idea! Anyone in the Cleve area know of a mechanic or shop I might be able to work something out with like that?

That hydro-electric control box with switch should go in a heart beat, somebody wanted one just the other day.

I shoulda noticed the parmaboater handle. I used to ride my bicycle to Parma when I was a tad. Is "Dead Man's Curve" still there on Rt3, going toward Hinckley?
I live in FL now and too far away now to come and get it or I would.

I'd spin the starter with jumper cables off a battery and check the compression. Wires are easy to fix if the rest is good.

The '68 through '72 OMC triples have a pair of transom brackets, to which the rest of the motor is attached. There are pin type bolts on the upper end of each of those brackets, and the system works by slipping a flat portion of the main part of the transom bracket (on the engine), down into grooves on the outer bracket, before mving the pin type bolts into place.

If you sell the motor whole, be sure to include the outer brackets, because the new owner would not be able to mount it to a boat without them. Similarly, if you part the motor out, include them with the rest of the transon bracket and/or swivel bracket.

also the control should go with the motor, as the motor is not any good with out those controls. the controls, if the switch is good, is worth atleast $100.00.

The buttons seem to be stuck today after I just tested them the other day. Can I spray WD40 in there to loosen them up or is there something else I should use?

Can i use jumper cable to hook them up to the solenoid? I'm not sure if the starter button works or if I want to even hook the battery up to the power cable. My neighbor should have a cylinder compression tester. Also do you know what the compression should be?

Thanks so far for the tips from everyone, looks like I came to the right place.

I whould part the engine out. Check the switch with a ohm meter. Go to a dealer and ask for a motor that run's. Have him show that it does, one way, or another. If he can't do that, shop some more.
