Sellers beware!

To bad we can't trash anyone on these forums.
I have bought and sold items from other members here and everyone except one member who i will not name has been great.
I sold a starter for a V6 crossflow for 40 bucks and the buyer wanted it fast.So i sent it second day delivery for a total of 68 bucks.
Well the member emailed me back and stated it worked great and he had the boat out that weekend.
He also emailed me back and forth asking advice on different engine topics.
Well,the other morning i get a email from Paypal saying i'm am getting a charge back for 68 bucks from this guy.It has been well over 2 months that he bought the starter.
He stated he never ordered it and someone had stolen his credit card..
I have all the emails saved,the tracking info and delivery receipt from Fedex.
2 different email addresses he used,one from his work and another from home.
Paypal suggested i try to contact him to resolve this.He will not respond.
I ended up forwarding Paypal all the receipts and emails and they are investigating it.
I could care less about the 68 bucks but i just will not get the shaft without a fight.
Also this guy has bought another boat in the last month or so and is asking things in the forums about it.
My attorney is looking into this for free,He found out its the guys credit card company who is putting the claim against Paypal.He also found out the delivery address is indeed the same as this guys home address.
So,what i'm getting to is don't trust anyone on these forums unless they have been here a long time and you know you can trust them.
So much for buyer beware! Its the sellers that need to watch out!

Sorry to hear that Gary. As big as this site has got to be over the years, it is bound to happen. People who do that stuff usually gets it back at them 10 fold. Good luck on a good outcome.

Thanks guys! Funny thing is that i have EVERY email he ever sent me..
I think the credit card people that are investigating this will be surprised.
Can you say FRAUD....LOL!!!
Bad thing is that he tried to make me look dishonest.I have never took a dime from anyone.
I wonder how much debt he is trying to say was fraudulent charges on his credit card?

That absolutely sucks , dude .
Is it possible that all the information , and , the board members online identity , are not the same as the credit card owners ?

I seriously doubt it is identity theft , especially with a work email and a confirmed physical address , BUT , it could be possible .
Still , sounds like this person is a total fruitcake , IMO .
A " member" in the worst sense of the word.......

In God I trust , ALL others pay cash , and pick up in person , for this very reason .
I will NEVER use PayPal , I have heard to many horror stories about those clowns .

He thought he was slick by giving the Paypal people and credit card company his work email and street address.He must have forgot he gave his work email to me also back before i sold him the starter.
I look at it this way.The credit card company knows his home address and it matches my receipt for the shipping address.So if his card was stolen then the thief was buying stuff and having it shipped to the card holders address?
Very unlikely!!
I emailed him with no response,send the starter back and he will get his refund!

Wow that really is bad. It's actually the first time I have heard that here on iboats.

I look at it this way.... he is commiting fraud ..... anyone live close to him?

Next time someone asks why iboats won't allow transactions to be arranged on the forum, I will refer them to this thread.

i am in the same boat as Gary, only not thru the forum. sold 2 of my PWC's one not running, guy made a $500 deposit thru paypal for me to hold them. i sent him and email acknowleging the receipt of deposit, he return the email saying he would call me before he left to come pick them up. he got here to pick them up. i showed him the good one, and also that the other one would not turn over. he got me to come down $100.00 on the total sale.

He signed the Bill of sale, stating he had personally inspected, and accepted them in "as is" condition.

2 weeks later i get a notice from PayPal, that he said it was an unauthorised transaction.

my paypal account is also tied up, until the credit card company resolves this. they have all the proof, that it was legit.

Gary and TD, the credit card company is not law enforcement, the most they will do is bill him what he would have had to pay anyway, so he will be out nothing for trying... please, PLEASE contact the FBI. What you are describing is illegal and the typical sentence is 2 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. It will only spread if you don't.

Perhaps fraud or any illegal actions should be added to the bannable infractions then.

I let nothing go until its paid for. Simple.
On a big transaction, like selling a boat or bike, its done at the bank, check or cash, and immediate deposit, with ID proof. Learned my lesson long ago.

if i was going to do a deal with another member...i would make double sure everything was good.....
