As some of you may remember, last summer I came across a 13 foot wooden runabout that looked to be from the 1940's. It was given to me for free, with no motor or trailer.

It’s made of marine plywood, numbers anywhere on the boat, and no one was even able to identify it. I think It may have been made from some kind of a kit or something, the craftsmanship is unreal.

I had it in the water only twice, one to make sure it floated, it did. Then I put in in the water with a two friends of mine and ran in with my 1987 8 hp Mercury, with three of us in the boat it planed off, nicely With one person it in she was a real screamer, even felt a little "tipsy" at WOT with I was the only one in the boat.

One of my friends who was on the boat with me that day has talked about buying it. I never thought he was serious. Today I was with him and I told him I was going to list it on ebay as a package, he told me he was serious about it and didn't want me to list it.

I told him I wanted 1,000 for the boat and motor, no trailer included, but he could borrow my trailer to transport it from my house to his cottage in NH. He offered me $900 and I told him I'd let him know by next week.

The problem is this,
The boat has no numbers and I have no paper work on it, I don't even have a bill of sale. I ran it with no numbers and luckily I didn't get stopped. I don't think he has thought of this yet. Will he be able to register it?

How does the price sound? Do you think one thousand is fair, or should I come down? Although I didn't pay for the hull, the Merc was rebuilt a few years ago, she starts on the first pull EVERY time and has never given me any problem, I think the motor is worth at least $600 to me. I just spend $275 on it last summer to have a brand new tiller/throttle installed on it. She was used on my 11 foot Whaler with remote controls until I repowered with a bigger motor two seasons ago. It was on my whaler when I bought the boat.

Ryan,

I think the price is reasonable. Besides, it's worth what someeone is willing to pay for it.

I do not think you will do any better on ebay.

Just have it registered as a homebuilt. They can't tell when it was built.

Thanks for the reply.

To try to descride it better:
Its white with red trip. Shes got a closed in bow and a small windsheald. She also has nice wooden seats behind the windsheld with backs on them. Behind those two seats their is a wooden bench seat and in the stern their are two sideways faceing seats that one would sit on to use it with a tiller.

I posted pictures a while back, but don't have pictures on my computer right now. I wish you could see her. :(

I wanted to keep this boat, but since I have three in the yard now she's gotta go. My dad wants me to get down to one!

Just One BOAT!!! Whats your Dad thinking of!! Man he is tuff on you. :)

And yes that is a pretty little boat. I remember you thinking it was going to be a peice of junk at first. But you do have a one of a kind there, a Merc that starts with one pull! LOL (Troll)
I could see it selling in the 1000 dollar range in the spring around here. The bright side of selling to your friend is that you might get to ride in it every once in awhile! And no extra work in making the sale.
The down side is ofcourse if something were to go wrong.. he was your friend. Tuff choice

Link

Its not going anywhere, he won't be able to use it for a while anyway, I'll want a few weeks and then talk to him again.

I don't like the idea of selling it to someone I know. With a stranger, if/when something go's wrong its gone, never have to hear about it. WIth firends of family your married to the boat

I would give my friend the boat for $900
That way you can still see it, use it with him, and not have to pay for it. ;)

Tell him that you'll take $850 for it and everybody will be all smiles and chances of ill will ever forming over the deal would be greatly eliminated
