Hi have 2002 Selva Montecarlo 2 stroke outboard motor these run the johnson vro pumps.I just purchased this boat and the previous owner had not serviced it since he purchased it 14 months ago_Once the boat was started it had a lot of smoke at tick over had engineer look at the motor he disconnected the vro and ran a premix 50:1 through a separate tank this seemed a lot better and he diagnosed a faulty vro. so i ordered the new replacement pre mix 60:1 pump that replaced it.In the mean time all old fuel was removed from the tank new fuel filters where fitted and the 2 stroke oil was drained and replaced with quicksilver premium plus oil as recommended by the dealer who sold me the new pump.new pump fitted and all primed etc new plugs the engine is just as bad as it was with the old pump very smoky at low revs and evidence of two stroke in the water the engine is fouling the plugs as it is over oiling. Is there any body out there who might have a clue what is going on as i have drawn a blank with what to do next.

Visit the "Engine Frequently asked questions" forum - more about VRO .... this explains the VRO system and answers your question re smoking at slow speed.
