sending unit to fuel gauge wiring ?

fuel gauge not working since i got boat 2mths ago It seems when you turn key on volt meter goes up to 12.6 and while fuel gauge goes to down past empty( of course it's on E to start with) so looked at wiring and the wires come from the sending unit to the gauge 1 on the ground and the other on the S term and when you touch the 2 together at tank it goes to past F
I saw a diagram on being wired to ing but the tach is 1st then my panel connects together there after(pos jumpers to all as well as grounds and it grounds to bus bar) all the lights work in the gauges speedo,tach,temp,fuel,and volts

Purple from ignition stud on tach to ignition stud on fuel gauge. Pink from sender to S on fuel gauge. Black from sender to G on fuel gauge. You also need a ground from the tach to the fuel gauge.
