Serial number information

I recently purchased my first boat, a third hand 16' Lowe Roughneck Tunnel Hull with an Evinrude V4 90/65 factory-installed jet drive. At some point I will no doubt need owner's manual, repair manual, parts, etc. Where can I go to find out information about the boat and motor from the serial numbers?

Thanks

Re: Serial number information

Thanks for the welcome. The first order of business is probably an owner's manual for the motor. I haven't a clue what the regularly scheduled maintenance should be, which items are typically user-serviced, which are typically dealer-serviced, what sort of lubrication and oil to use, what the typical operating parameters are...the list goes on. I haven't had it long enough to break anything so I'm not looking for parts yet.

Some manufacturers have a page on their site where a person can enter a serial number and it will return the date of manufacture, specifications, links to other information, that sort of thing. Does Evinrude have anything like that?

Re: Serial number information

http://epc.brp.com is johnson evinrudes parts catalog.

you can find part numbers and exploded diagrams of most of their products from 1968 to present.

you may have to guess which year you motor is and search manually.

pick a year and horse power and look for your serial number

Re: Serial number information

Thanks jl_photo. I continued to look and eventually found this link.

http://www.brokeboats.com/omcid.html

It has a key to decode the somewhat cryptic model number scheme. Unfortunately, when I looked at the "Evinrude" site (read BRP - Bombardier Recreational Products) and finally drilled down to actual Evinrude products (in English, in North America, under outboard motors, etc) they displayed a statement to the effect that "...in order to better serve all our customers...", they were going to discontinue support for all motors manufactured after 1997. (I'm not certain if the date). The BRP site also had operator's guides..... all the way back to 2004. Gee, thanks guys.

The Ken Cook CO. does seem to have a fairly exhaustive list of manuals, including mine at http://www.outboardbooks.com/

Thanks again. I am sure I will be here in the future trying to track down some obscure problem or part.

I just re checked my info, still works.

If you go to the link above and use the search bar you will find the parts diagrams and part numbers for your exact model engine 1968-thru 2007.

just click on johnson or evinrude in the drop down menue on the left, and work your way towards your engine if the search engine won't find your model

this site is for informational use only. customer service tech suport and parts are provided by dealers and the kind people at iboats forums
