Serial number location 200hp

Hi...
Does anyone know where the serial number should be on a v6 200hp mercury , the label has long gone I think it is around 1993 - 1996 , the manual said the lower starboard side of the block but all i could find was the block part number .

any help would be great.

Might be stamped in tha welsh plug. Some are and some arn't. It looks like a freeze plug on top on tha block. Should be a build date stamped at tha base of #2 clyinder on tha "block" half. On tha clyinder itself, not tha edge. Right behind tha timing advance arm. If its a late in tha year date it will be titled or register as tha next years model. ie: 10/28/93 will be a '94 model........D
