serial number

I have a 1986 johnson 120 hp. I have looked everywhere for the serial number. I thought that it would be on the mounting bracket like my mercury. are ther any other numbers that I can go by.<br />thanks

Look on the block for a large welch plug. The model and serial number should be on there.
