Hi Guys;

I have a question about serial numbers. Does anybody have the ability to look up these numbers. They don't make sense to me. The boat is a 1995. I was told it was repowered in 08. Based on the information I have the years don't match up with the serial numbers. Any help would be appreciated. The numbers are in the pictures. Engine-0F363726, Transom-0M591037, Drive-0F372090. Thanks...

I'm going to crash this thread. Thanks Don for that excellent SN range chart. Very helpful to me as well. However, I still also can't figure out exactly which engine I have. Well I'm sure its a 97 7.4L but don't understand how to read this SN range chart. Can you show exactly how my serial number is a 97 7.4L?

Engine Serial Number: 0K035983
Transom Serial Number: 0K137180
Drive Serial Number : 0K094390

Are these serial numbers really individual numbers, or are they really lot numbers where multiple engines exist with the same S/N? The reason I ask is because they don't really show a range, only a single number.

Every engine, transom assembly and drive has it's own serial number. The chart works by showing the first number used that year. The first serial number in 1997 for the 7.4 Bravo was 0K004000, the next year started with a serial number of 0L086200, which is after your serial number...

Its kinda funny how even the honest guys can't be honest.
I bought this boat from a rich guy who banks where my wife works. You would think a guy wouldn't crap where he banks. The boat was advertised that it had a new engine. I was told the boat receive a brand new crate engine and the drive had never been damaged. Later when climbing around the engine, I find a tag from an engine builder that said when the engine was replace (06) and that it was punched .30 over. Also upon further inspection of the drive, the skeg had been welded on.
Now whats the deal with this transom.
When I call the PO he says the boat was "professionally maintain" and gets all snotty with me when I ask for the marina staiting that I don't need to bother them.
I believe the boat was not maintained, but fixed when broken. The boat runs nice, now that I have fixed the "well maintained" stuff, but I wonder why that transom is new.

I've seen this before... New transom assembly, repaired skeg. In some cases if the boat is travelling fast enough and hits an object (usually a rock or reef) the leg will kick up so hard it smashes the gimbal ring. It's usually not worth the insurance company repairing it, so what they do is use the transom assembly from a boat they have written off for some other reason (perhaps a sinker, or one with structural damage). As for the engine, it could have been over revved to the point of damage when the prop 'unloaded'....

Just a possibility....

Chris....
Edit: Just re-read some of the posts here. Engine 'replaced' in 06, transom assembly from an 03..... Skeg welded on (I'll bet that was done in 06!). He got stroppy with you for trying to find out what happened because you'll get to the truth! Keep digging!!! Maybe try and find out where any big cheques went in 06. ;)

Apperently this marina froze it and repowerd. Also they froze the fuel cooler on his brand new 24 foot Sea Ray 7.4. I don't know why he keeps dealing with this marina and protects them. I'm not looking for money. I understand what AS IS means. I would just like to know the history so I can do repairs properly......
