Is there a model/serial number on the block (powerhead) that will verify that the unit that is on the boat is the engine that is supposed to be. I purchased the boat and motor used. From information on bill of sale/title etc., the engine is supposed to be a 1989 150 HP Black Max. I burnt a piston and the info I received about repairing it has been extemely valuable, but I am starting to have doubts as to the engine being what it is supposed to be. Wondering if it could be a rebuilt powerhead. One of the numbers on the block is 858-8346, which is Mercury's, however I can't seem to cross referance it.

Re: serial numbers

Thank you for the info. That is exactly where it is at. And it is the number it is supposed to be, so I will breath a little easier.

Thanks again.
