Hello everyone,
I am posting here because I would really appreciate the opinion of experienced Chaparral owners, marine technicians, and anyone who may have seen a similar failure.
I own a 2025 Chaparral 267 SSX, purchased new. Unfortunately, the boat has had a number of warranty-related problems since delivery, but the most serious incident happened recently while I was on the water with my wife and children.
The hard-top structure suddenly failed and became unstable while underway. The movement was severe enough that I no longer considered the boat safe to operate normally, and I had to secure the structure temporarily before returning.
This incident is especially concerning because it was not the first warning sign.
Previously, I had already reported:
After the incident, I opened the upholstered section around the hard-top mechanism so I could document what had actually happened.
What I found was very serious.
Both lower hard-top actuators appear to have suffered structural failure.
The aluminium components that support/hold the actuator cylinders are broken.
On the right side, the actuator rod itself also appears to have pulled out or unscrewed. A threaded section is clearly visible, which makes me suspect that it may have progressively loosened until only a small part of the thread remained engaged and then finally pulled out under load.
In addition, the main bolts connecting the actuators to the hard-top structure were loose, and at least one of them appears to be broken.
I cannot yet properly inspect the upper actuator connections without further disassembly, so I do not want to speculate about their condition.
At this stage, I have deliberately not allowed the hard-top to be repaired or dismantled further, because I want the failure to be professionally documented first.
The boat is currently effectively unusable.
I am now trying to understand whether this type of failure has ever been seen on another Chaparral hard-top system.
I would especially appreciate opinions on the following:
I have extensive photographs and videos documenting the condition before and after the incident, including the loose screws, previous hard-top issues, and the current broken actuator components.
I am not posting this simply to criticize the manufacturer or dealer. My main concern is understanding how this happened, whether the installation/design is correct, and whether the boat can be considered safe without a complete structural inspection.
Any technical input or experience with the Chaparral 267 SSX hard-top system would be greatly appreciated.

- Continuous cracking/creaking noises from the hard-top structure.
- Additional loose or unidentified screws found inside the boat.
- Repeated concerns regarding the hard-top mounting points and structural connections.

- Has anyone experienced loose hard-top mounting bolts or actuator failures on a Chaparral?
- Is there normally a locking system, thread locker, locking nut, pin, or other secondary retention method preventing these actuator connections from progressively unscrewing?
- Could failure of one mounting point overload the opposite actuator and cause a cascading failure?
- Would you consider broken actuator mounts and loose/broken structural bolts on a nearly new boat to be an isolated component failure, or would you recommend inspection of the complete hard-top structure and all mounting points?
- Are there any known service bulletins, recalls, or previous cases involving this type of Chaparral hard-top mechanism?
