serious leaking pontoons...

need some help folks.... three months ago bought a nice looking 2004 19' pontoon boat from a couple in their eighties....nice folks...told me they could not handle getting it on and off the trailer so sold it to me....originally they had it around saltwater but had moved it to freshwater where I bought it...told me it had very few hours on it and I think that is true too...I have had it out 5-6 times and both toons leak substantially....now I have learned that the pontoon bottoms are seriously damaged from saltwater and from sitting on trailer bunks (carpeted) that contain salt. some say have new aluminum welded in...some say fill with epoxy and a sealer coat....some say replace pontoons...open to any ideas ??????

Without seeing the damage it is hard to say. If the damage is widespread then I would have a welder add new aluminum.

I would be inclined to search out a pair of replacement toons. I was looking last fall and found a few places that had factory seconds (small scratches) for a reasonable price. I'd search out an epoxy based sealer that will extend the life of what you have until you have a more permanent repair lined up.

Been in a pontoon weld shop for 22 year.

I think you are going to be looking for some new tubes.

To have someone fix that would be very close to what new tubes would cost not that it can be fixed.

To match the bend and get a section that big welded on would be next to impossible.

With out seeing the damage it is hard to say what to do but adding new bottoms to the tubes is not an option, you may be able to get by for a while with gluvit ro something similar but different tubes are in your future.

Hi all new here.. I was wondering would it be possible to put a Bilge pump inside the Pontoon. And make a water tight access panel on the top of the toon.. Just a thought seems feasible to me.. I have pin holes in mine and they leak..

It looks like you need to replace your bunks as well as your toons. I replaced mine and then put that new plastic cover's over the bunks. Cost me about $250.00 for the plastic cover's (24 ft Boat)
