This WAS my brothers doctor. My brother was taking Methadone andit was making him sick so he turned it in. I told him to make sure he sees the doctor flush it. Well Buddha said he saw the doctor take it to the restroom and heard the toilet flush. A few days ago he got a call from the Texas Attorney Generals Office asking about his prescription. Turns out the doctor didn't flush it at all. Heres the story from the Palestine Hearld:

JP raises doctor's bond to $200,000

Palestine — The legal difficulties of a 47-year-old Palestine doctor continued to mount Wednesday as he was taken into custody after a local justice of the peace ordered his bond raised to $200,000 on a resisting arrest charge.

The bond of local physician Dr. Robert Joseph Byrnes, 47, on a resisting arrest charge filed last month was increased from $5,000 to $200,000 following a 30-minute hearing Wednesday in the court of Anderson County Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace James Westley.

Byrnes was released from the Anderson County Jail Wednesday afternoon after posting the $200,000 bond, according to Anderson County Sheriff Greg Taylor.

Stanley Sokolowski, Anderson County assistant district attorney, said Wednesday’s hearing was ordered by the court after Byrnes allegedly failed to pay bond supervision fees in a timely manner.

Byrnes has been arrested four times during the past four months, with his initial arrest coming in late April for insurance fraud stemming from a July 2004 automobile accident in Mount Pleasant.

Throughout his recent legal difficulties, Byrnes apparently has continued to practice medicine at Palestine Medical and Rehab Clinic at 2035 Crockett Rd. His most recent arrest, however, may put a temporary halt to his medical practice.

As a condition of his new bond set by Westley, Byrnes is “prohibited from exercising any medical practice privileges as long as he is on bond for this offense,” according to Sokolowski.

Ricky Baker of the Anderson County Adult Community Supervision Department and Gerald Kerr, investigator with the Anderson County district attorney’s office, testified during Wednesday’s hearing.

Colin McFail, Anderson County assistant district attorney, represented the state during the hearing.

Prior to Wednesday, Byrnes had been arrested most recently on the charge of prescription fraud on Aug. 16 after authorities say he illegally prescribed the controlled substance Midrin to a patient.

Palestine Police Department Det. Larry Mars has said that Byrnes had “no authority” to prescribe such a controlled substance “past the date of Aug. 11, 2006” after surrendering his DEA registration to write such a prescription.

The following day on Aug. 17, authorities executed a search warrant on Byrnes’ 2003 Hummer, discovering various painkillers mostly prescribed by the doctor to other people, according to Mars.

Total weight of the tablets discovered inside Byrnes’ vehicle was 111.9 grams, according to Mars. Those tablets — which numbered more than 100 — included the popular painkillers Hydrocodone, Morphine, Oxycontin and Methadone.

The doctor’s Hummer remains in the hands of authorities who are in the process of seizing the vehicle based on their contention it was used in the commission of a felony offense.

Byrnes had been arrested on July 5 after allegedly failing to appear for a child support hearing in Cherokee County. While being taken into custody that day at his Palestine medical office, Anderson County sheriff’s authorities additionally charged him with resisting arrest after saying he “jerked away” from an officer in an “aggressive” fashion during the handcuffing process.

I didn't realize that methadone was prescribed to people as a pain killer.I thought it was just ditributed to heroin addicts that are participating in a methadone program.Shows how much I knew.
