I’m looking for a service manual for a Mercury 7.5 Hp 2-stroke outboard. I have no idea how old this motor is. Mercury tells me the serial number isn’t valid which is making it difficult to know what parts to order. Serial number on the tag is 6431074.

Someone lied to a buddy and told them I know something about boats. Motor been sitting for several years. Has spark and compression but carb is gummed up. I can rebuild a carb and replace an impeller but have no idea on initial setup or torque values to keep from crushing the plastic water pump housing.

Copper colored stripes ?----Wildest guess is 1985.----Mercury is more interested in selling the new V-12 600 HP at $70,000 each.----Can not be bothered with a $20 sale

Your motor is a 1984 or 1985 !----The only years they used those decals.----And the serial # is for 1985.

Wow.....I have had no problems at all getting parts for my Merc outboard.. My local marine dealer is well stocked and gives great advice.

Thanks, knowing the year helps. There are several parts discontinued but it looks like iBoats has what I think I need to get it running. Still looking for a free manual but not a big deal if I have to order a Clymer or Seloc.

Facrory service manual or nothing !! Clymer and Selok manuals are used only when you run out of toilet paper. I find most of my older manuals on Ebay

Just parts to overhaul a carb, water pump parts and a throttle lever. Maybe a couple of other miscellaneous items. All available so far. I can probably get them at my local Mercury shop in Oklahoma but a lot of the time it is faster and more economical to order the stuff online. I have to look up the part numbers myself anyway unless I want to spend an hour standing at the counter.

It doesn’t look like the stator is available anymore so I’ll patch the mouse chewed ignition wires. Like I said though, spark looks good.

Not overly interested in buying stuff from fleabay. The manuals I have bought there were missing pages. One for a forklift was missing an entire section. Naturally, it was the section I bought it for.

I have about the same luck buying scanned pdf files. I will use one for free but I am done buying low res scans.

Sorry to hear your issues with E bay, my experiences have always been great ! I have four service manuals purchased from there, some are dirty or greasy from use but all 100% there. I found a downlod for a Mercruiser engine and outdrive that was 900 plus pages, put it on a thumb drive, then open and copy the pages I need to put in a loose leaf notebook. Good luck !

Brown stripe is 84/85

There are two drive shaft diameters (therefore two pump kits), so you need to measure the drive shaft BEFORE you buy the water pump

Old mercs web site has a good batch of manuals posted
