Hey everyone,

I finally figured out my engine model. It's an OMC 502APRJUB in a 1993 four winns. Question for ya.. I bought a "AMH" Cobra service manual.. everything in the manual looks like my engine and sounds like it.. however, is it really important to get a "JUB" service manual instead? or can I use my AMH fairly safely?

Re: Service manual question

I think the model might actually be a V instead of a U

Yes, it's a JV, not a U. It's a 93 OMC. JV model. That is what you want to look for in a service manual set.
Get the JV set, they are NOT the same as an AM set

Re: Service manual question

One more question if anyone knows. The 1992 AMH service manual seems to be one book that I can find a lot of.. Did OMC break out the 1993 service manual into multiple books because I can't find a single book like my AMH one... that's gonna make it darn pricey for JVG.

Re: Service manual question

ALL the Cobra models had multiple books for each model to make up the complete set. Even the AM

Re: Service manual question

Interesting Don...

This is the 1992 AMH service manual I have:

It seems to cover every subject... Anyone know if 1993 has an equivelant book I can hunt for?

All I can find is seperate books like these two (there's also a fuel and electrical one)

I don't think you have a King Cobra you number indicated a 5.0. Yours is just plain Cobra.

Re: Service manual question

I linked the wrong 1992 book up above, sorry. I have the Cobra version of the 1992 AMH.

For what it's worth, he's the results of my research:

I've been able to confirm with a great deal of certainly that OMC released a single service manual book for the 1992 AMH Cobra. This book covers every topic (fuel, sterndrive, engine, electrical, etc.). They had a second book for the King Cobra of the same year, the book looks very similar.

However, 1993 they appeared to take a different approach. They released a set of service manual books. Each book in the set covered a different subject. There was electrical, fuel, sterndrive, and efi (I might be missing one)... those manuals covered both Cobra and King Cobra in the same book! For the engine, they released a 2 seperate books, one covering Cobra specifically and the other King Cobra.

As a result, you can obtain a full service manual for a 1992 Cobra for a measely $25 shipped through ebay. 1993 is a whole other story.. You can buy each of the books for $25 shipped. However, the Cobra engine book seems to be in short supply so it runs $45 or so shipped.

Bummer really... That's a total of $125 or more for fuel, electrical, sterndrive, and engine books. $100 price difference makes me wonder how different the AMH model really is, and if I could get away with refering to the AMH book for the simple routine maintenance I'll be doing anyway. I usually do all the easy stuff on my vehicles.. I never get into taking apart engines or transmissions though.

Anyhow, hopefully this information will help someone else out someday.
