Over the years several people on this site recommend an original service manual. So I went on Ebay and purchased a 1984 OMC Service manual. While working on the outdrive these past few weeks, I found myself referring back to my Clymer manual. I am not impressed with the original manual. The printing is real small and the pictures are terrible . Maybe I have just gotten use to the Clymer manual over the past 25 years. When comparing the two manuals I don't see any information missing from the Clymer

the original manuals are still the best. each one is specific to your year and model.

the only official site for the factory manuals is https://www.outboardbooks.com/

here is the search page where you need to put in your specific year, model and hp
https://www.outboardbooks.com/index.cfm?event=item.search

Ken Cook company always has been and always will be the factory manual provider.

if it wasnt printed by Ken Cook, its not the factory manual.

your manual should be 983673

And if its one of the photo copied manuals that shows up in a 3 ring binder, it is a fake/forgery.

Yes, model specific factory manual gives more detailed specs, and is written for the trained service tech.
A generic (clymer) manual will sometimes explain procedures better for the layperson.

The 2 of them work well together.

The manual that I bought is from OMC . Waukegan Illinois. It didn't come in a 3 ring binder but it does have the holes if you want to put it in a binder.

I just looked at that website and it looks like I did buy the original manual. Part number 983673. I guess I just need to get use to it.
