A parts manual would probably be handy.
I called our local NAPA and asked for their 600 page marine products catalog (67 pages of E/J
parts.)I had it in three days no charge.
Obviously not as helpful as a factory manual
but they list lots of parts.
Parts catalog can be very helpful as they show an exploded view of each component and how they fit together. The correct part order number is also given. This number can be used to order from your dealer or to cross reference NAPA, ect. parts.
I have original parts catalogs for Evinrude &Johnson starting in 1957, selling for $6.00 plus postage. If you are interested or for more info, please email: linda@nu-z.net
A parts catalog is nice but not essential if you have a good dealer near you. they will have the catalogs on microfiche. I found one that pulled a '57 Evirude up in 30 seconds and had me beihnd the counter so I could show them what I wanted. they also gave me the numbers of the parts I wanted that they did not have in stock so I could look elsewhere. You could also email this person. Their dealership closed but they still have some of the documentation and parts available. Linda there is very nice, helpful and sold me an original parts manual for less than I could have got a reproduction for. linda@nu-z.net
