Service Manuals in Adults Only Sticky - What Happened?

Just wondering what happened to the service manuals in the adult only sticky? It says they are no longer available on this site. Was it a hosting issue or something else? Having the manuals available was a great service for a lot of people.

My apologizes in advance if this is the wrong forum for this question.

Mercruiser had em removed due to copyrights infringement.
Think the VP and OMC are gone too.

I have a hard copy, but wish that I had saved an e-copy now. Very convenient when I'm thinking about fixing my boat here at work. More than anything I was just curious about why they were removed.

surprised the site owners haven't looked into it.

copyright law is full of holes.

if they put them back up, and had proof that they were created from a bought source - which obviously they would be - they would just need a disclaimer at the bottom of each pdf - and maybe one on the adults only page - and then another one on each link to the various manuals - stating reference only, and downloading is forbidden.

us being an honest bunch of forummers would obviously abide by that

no-one can stop the sharing of information they have purchased in the public domain.

prob too much hassle and not worth the fight i guess

too large to email true - but they could be put on a remote ftp server as and when - for download

hey-ho just my two-pennys worth - lol

i've got a Clymer manual for my outfit - and its pretty b*ll*x anyhow.

no doubt whatsoever that the experts on here are my useful than any book

it's just plain greed i think....

i don't frequent the pwc forums much any more, but i was over there today and see yamaha makes there manuals for pwc available too...

maybe mercuiser will someday come to their senses and let the manuals go and know it's the best for everyone involved. including them. but apparently dollars rule (like usual) at this point...

Well that just STINKS.

It's not Iboats or Don S. 's fault, they have to cover their butts.

I can sort of understand the Merc stuff, they are still here and want to sell you a manual.

Did the ghosts of OMC rise from the dead?

I supplied the three big OMC files that were in Don's zone. I bought them fair and square. I am sorry that the link in Iboats is no longer available.

So whatever you do, DO NOT go to 4shared.com and search for OMC.

You'd think they'd let us have them, they're probably selling MORE parts with free manuals, as I feel confident to fix little things that I know wouldn't get done if I had to pay someone to fix them...

And I couldn't agree more PS94 - there will be loads more boats going around with 'luxury' features no longer working for exactly that reason -

the choice of living without a non essential feature or facing a massive workshop bill to diagnose/repair would certainly lead me and most others probably to simply leaving it not working

whereas if you know how to fix it and the parts required - due to having a manual - then Merc would at least get the money for the parts required

greed greed greed

and particularly pathetic to even try and restrict downloading of files just because they can, when everyone knows the internet is a treasure chest full of sites that 'share' info - and why not

at least if they are having the manuals downloaded they know people have merc setups - they should be flattered
