I have an 1985 supra marauder ski boat with a wakeboard tower just wondering what type of prop i should put on with what ballast weight i should have in side of it. The engine is an 318 chrysler inboard. Any suggestions?

Re: Setting boat up for wakeboarding

Hi Crazy Redhead -- this is one I'm not willing to guess at and will work with my boat engine shop on. Although like you, I'm interested in a bit more bottom grunt, and on one of these threads, folks are discussing the four blade prop use, but we certainly need to ensure correct pitch, that's why I'll figure out with my mechanic. The only problem I currently have is my wife pulling me up, not sure yet if it's her throttle control or me or the boat. I have the I/O merc 190hp, although I feel like I'm being dragged. Trying out a new tower this weekend -- should help; correct my form -- should help; prop may be over the winter. I have trim tabs, so I can create enough wake by changing the resistance on those. Try a forum "prop" search, will probably find good reads.

Re: Setting boat up for wakeboarding

I would start with no ballast and adjust from there. I find that with our whole family in the boat we don't need any ballast to make a large wake. However for surfing I might pick up a fat sack for a bit extra. I have no advice for prop, I have never felt the need to mess with the factory prop on an inboard ski boat since whole unit was designed to pull, not cruise.
