setting on tacho switch

Hi all,

I'm busy with an original Yamaha digital trim/tacho switch on my 85hp 1991 yamaha outboard.
I have everything working, but don't know how to set the switch on the back of the gauge.

If I switch it while motor is running I would say "no 12" is the right one, but I am not sure.

The boat (and motor) are not in the water right now so i have to do the rpm measuring by cooling it with the hose..

Anyone there who knows more about this one??

Re: setting on tacho switch

Thanx rodbolt.
It's wat I thought, but when you tell me I'am sure....

Bought the gauge from a guy with a 60 hp Yamaha. He had it working well on 6 pole he said. His Yamaha was also a 3 cyl. Do you know why the setting is different?

Greetings Robert

Re: setting on tacho switch

because the 60 used a 6 pole altenater and the 90 uses a 12 pole altenator. other than that the tach settings are the same.
