Setting timing on 205 4.3l

I am haveing an little issue figuring out the timing on a 4.3l. My issue is the manual has a drawing of the tab and markings to set the timing but they don't correlate to what's on the engine. The manual shows a tab that is above the balancer that has hash marks and a flat face, but the tab on the engine dosnt have hash marks and it has a serrated face and I assume each point and valley is a timing mark, but it isn't labeled so I don't know what is 0 and what is the 8 degrees it should be set at. Any ideas? Made a quick diagram drawing on the iPad, not perfect but give an idea.

Here are a couple differerent versions. some had a reversed pointer for 0? some didn't, but they are in the same place.
