I got a tach that fits the wiring harness from the 1997 Evinrude 90 hp I have.

ther eris an 8 pin connector on my harbnes and there is an 8 pin set up on the back of the tach.

there is also a selector for 5 pul/rev or 6 pul/rev

and there is a sticker on the back of the tach that says"
176301 24-C-Y
For use with 5-6 PUL/REV
Alternators equipped
Outboatds"

what should I have it set on?

plus there is a brass strip comming off either side of the light plug for contact...and both have a stud for a wire...

is one a pos and one a neg?

or does my purple igintion power wire go to one side and then a black ground wire to the other?

thanks

It should be set for 6 pulses. Lights normally get hooked to existing light circuits. One side to 12V and the other to ground. Use the purple wire to provide 12V to the tach so it just works with the key on.

If you have the eight pin plug on your harness and the systemcheck 8 pin tach, use the harness; it is prewired. It will be similar to the one you see if you click the thumbnail.

6P is correct.

The positive and negative wiring for the gauge light is usually separate and runs from your gauge light circuit.
