Without a doubt, Rick Davis is the most innovative person in the rec boat industry, and with the 557, has really hit on a winner. I was wondering about his choice of power- the 6.2 Caddy. I guess what I'm really curious about, is that if this engine is such a good choice for marine application, why haven't the inboard companies picked up on this?

The NA version is the Volvo choice for their highest horsepower I/Os. Mercruy builds their own engines, independent of GM, so that's why you don't see them there. Many of the straight and v-drive inboard guys offer the LSA as well.

the 557 is a winner??? really??? sure its cool and innovative no doubt, but what percentage of us could afford one of those motors and a boat that would take it? its built for a niche market , cant imagine the 557 is flying off the shelves. jmo

I believe they're aimed at the multi-engined off-shore, go-fast boats....and these folks are a lot more worried about performance than the price of the motors....

I think the original list price was in the order of $70,000 so it is available to those who do not worry about a few coins.-----Not something for the average consumer !!!!

the target 557 buyer is a guy in the late 40's to mid 50's with a few $$$$$ in the bank. the target 557 boat is a 35-55' CC go-fast fishing boat.

back to the OP's question. below is the 2015 GM marine lineup. The lineup goes from the 3.0 liter to the same LSA that Rick and Eric Davis put in the 557. Long gone is the big block, soon to go will be the gen 1 motors as none have been in a vehicle for 10 years now.
