Hello all,
I have a 1989 100 HP Mariner that is acting terrible. The motor sat for 3-4 years so I put in a new impeller and changed the gear oil in the lower unit just to get her water ready and then put it on the muffs to see if she would run. Well the motor ran like a champ so i took it to the water and could not get it to start. So I took it to the house and tore into the carbs... They looked wonderful except for what I think may have been a clog on one of the high speed jets. In the process I noticed that there were no back drag screws in all four carbs. The generic manual for merc shows there being a screw (just to plug the hole i am assuming) in all four units. Are these supposed to be here and if so why would all 4 be missing. I need to add that before i tore into the carbs I did having it running again but the fuel I had in it was mixed way to rich with oil and I gummed all four plugs and had what looked like burnt motor oil coming from the exhaust so i added fuel to the mix. I put the carbs back on and had no luck starting the motor and noticed that when priming the bulb the ball would no longer stay hard and fuel was squirting out of the #4 carb from the back drag and the carb itself... I took everything back apart to checked it all out again and also looked at my reeds... Everything looks good. Where do I go from here. Also in the manual I noticed that it said that the screw on the top left for air mixture should be set by mfg and need not adjusting. I checked it and each one on all four carbs spun loosly. What is the correct adjustment for these. All help is greatly appreciated!!!
