My 8200lb tandem axle aluminum trailer bounces severely and vibrates my Chevy 2500 severely when towed empty. On my last trip home it vibrated so badly that on of the taillights broke off and the other was left hanging by the wires. There have ben no collision impacts to the trailer and the tires are fairly new. Running 80 psi in the tires that is listed. Any suggestions what would cause such an issue?

It is common for just about "all" trailer to bounce and ride rough when empty.

A few things that I'm aware of doing to help the situation:
Make sure the tires are properly balanced, just like high speed balancing car/truck tires.
When the trailer has no load, lower the air pressure to the lowest recommended for the tire.

That's all I can think of. maybe others here will have additional ideas.

If it's bouncing that bad, I agree with the suggestion to lower tire pressure. I also notice that, when empty, my trailer skips a bit when I touch the brakes. I think the absence of any weight allows the wheels to lock up more easily.
