I am looking to buy a lower unit for my 1997 90hp force, I found one on craigslist from a 1995 120hp force and the guys says that its 14 inches which from what I have been reading this is not correct. If he can find the numbers off it can it be found from that or is there any other way? Thanks.

Re: Shaft length

That was a two part drive shaft. If the top part is 14 inches, then it fits a 20 inch transom and midleg. HOWEVER: if you still have your driveshaft, it will swap onto the coupler on the lower unit stub shaft and (here is where I am not too sure) if both lowers are Mercury bolt pattern, then the one you want to buy will fit.

Are you looking for a 20 or a 25in shaft. I might be able to help. Just give me a private message.

Re: Shaft length

1995-97 is the Merc/Force 3 jaw unit and 1998-99 is the 6 jaw unit. If you have a 1997 90hp it should be the Merc/force unit and the 2 piece unit will not bolt up.

Merc unit.......... Force unit
