Shaft Question

I have a 1996 mercury 25 el on my little fishing boat . I measured my transom and it is 18 inches. Can i put a short shaft motor on this and if so what are some pro's and con's to doing this please give me some advice guys.

If you put the motor too high it will not perform correctly.Too long it will work but not as good.The cavitation plate needs to be level with the bottom.Too high and it can overheat.It will loose thrust.If you want to idle all day it will work.Jerry
