Shallow water drive?

My 1986 15hp. Johnson has a lever that will allow the motor to be run shallow so you can get in to spots that would not be possible otherwise. This used to work fine, I'd push the lever and raise the motor and it would lock in the shallow position. Now I do this and it never seems to engage and hold the motor up. Is there someway I can get a view of the parts used to do this so I can tell what needs to be fixed or adjusted? Thanks!!

If you find that you need is wd40 and you are operating in salt water get a pricey can of Corrosion X from Academy Sports and you will fine that it will stop your binding problem almost for good. You can order it from Corrosion Tecnoliges on the internet. I don't work for them!

Either that or PB Blastr will work just fine. Good luck

Ok, if the spring is broken do I need to give the dealer the part # or do I just bring the broken part in? Never had to replace a motor part before and just don't want to end up making several trips just for a spring.

The best way to identify a part is by the part number.
There are a lot of springs that looks alike. :)

So I can use the links that have been posted here to get the right part numbers?

That is one of the reasons posting the links. Just be aware of that sometimes the original part number may have been superseded, but in those cases new part should fit.
