We all need quality tunes out on the water. Think hard and tell us your favorite artist/band that we may not have heard of. I've found you can trust your friends more than magazines. I'm gonna cheat(cause I intorduced this topic) and give you two

Ben Harper (bluezy, rock with a crapload of soul and slide guitar (No Profanity)

Black Ladysmith Mambazo (the African chorus that accompainied such artists as Paul Simon on Graceland independently on the Lifesavers commercial.) You'll never fall asleep without it. (no profanity)

It's Ladysmith Black Mambazo. I tried to edit my post forever, but it didn't work. Assume all other typos were acknowledged and corrected. Then assume I look like Brad Pitt and my wife looks like Rabecca Rojmain.

No, Brian. We don't all "need" man-made sounds when out on the water.

For many of us that is one of the things we are getting away from when we are out there.

Water slapping on the hull, birds and other wildlife, a surface strike by a big one and screaming drags are the only sounds I want on the water.

Enjoy your music, but please don't force it on those of us in search of peace.

:)

JB I am also partial to the natural sounds but, I really cherish feeling the same boat motion when I fall asleep on land! It's the brains way of saying "get back on the water". :)

Bob

Ditto, JB. I really like the "screaming drags" part.

And if you like Ladysmith B.M., PLEASE get
Zap MaMa
It's women singing great African/French music.

Natural women singing Natural music.

Crank it up and you can drown out the sounds of inboard motors so cherished by some.

LOL - Crab Bait, you're doing some pretty good one liners these days... :D

Natural women and natural music sounds very inviting to me too - but only on land. When I'm at sea I like to hear the (natural) sounds of the sea and my boat around me.

...besides, you wouldn't hear much above the ole' screaming Evinrude! :D

Each to their own, live and let live.

"IF" is was going to listen to music while fishing it would have to be Robert Earl Keen "Five Pound Bass".

But I too enjoy the quiet of the outdoors. Geese headed north or south depeding on the season. The slap of a beavers tail on the water. Green Jays squawking just to be squawking. I heard two big Gators growling this past friday on the local lake. Nothing like putting the hair on the back of your neck at attention.

Oh, and the faint sound of that guy at the dock burning 2,000 miles off his tires because he doesn't know what he is doing.

Who in the hell needs music when fishing, I only use it when racing to keep me reved up. When fishing.I just like being out in the breeze and the salt air. I don't want to spook the fish!

The first two fishin' rules I learned at my grandaddys knee were;
1. spit on your hook for good luck.
2. noise scares the fish . In fact if I spoke above a whisper I got a lovingly administered correctional thump on the top of my head.

Brings me to ask a question... with all those knee-slapping, toe-tapping, stereophonic-aquatic jam sessions, are you catching any fish? If you aren't refer to Grandaddys rule number two. :D

Sorry JB. i mistook this post for "nothing to do with boats." My lead in was just a way to break the ice with some common ground. What I was looking for was a some leads on some tunes. Last time I heard a fish sing it was at Wal-Mart and it cost $19.95.

Glastron - don't tell me you have those "Big Mouth Billy Bass" mounted fish thingy things over there too...

I've got one hanging on my wall (a Christmas present from my sister no less). Every now and then one of the kids sets it off and it bursts in to song (nearly scares the ^&*^&^ out of me!). :D

Hi Crab Bait

It sings "Don't Worry, Be Happy" and "Take me to the river.." - very loud I might add.

Yes it's made in China, like a lot of things these days - and come to think of it, I think I know where the original idea came from too ;)

Re: Share some musical wisdom?

i agree with jb on this one. would a manly version of we are the champions be ok on the way back in to shore. we must realy be careful in the way we use that quoat " singing drags " there might actualy be a band named that in this sick world and if there is i don't even want to go there. if a bayliner full of men in dresses goes wizzen by me i might have to break out the hidden dragon style on em (crabbait) if that don't work i'll go for the flare gun. :D :D
