Are there any problems with replacing the original exhaust bellows solid style with the new shaved style?
Why did they shave the new bellows?

86 was a cross-over year going from stringer to cobra. So since you mention bellows, I assume you have the first year of the Cobra drive, correct?

the exhaust bellows is there simply to keep the boat somewhat quiet. its technically not critical

you are replacing the u-joint bellows as well.

I will also assume that the shaved part of the bellows should be pointed down.

You might see the non shaved one in some of the old manuals; they started making it that way to reduce exhaust back pressure
