She runs well, I am only getting 5000 rpms with 4 people and 140 gallons of fuel which is alot of load. Iam going to step down from a 19p prop to a 17 or a 16 four blade

Well, congratulations.

Can you tell us what all it turned out to be?
You started so many posts it is hard to tell what all was done to fix your problems.

I bet if you trim the motor up after you get on plane you'll get 2-400 hundred more RPM

couple of things. The hose from the tank to the seperator was 7/16 instead of 3/8 leaking air. The intake gasket and one of the reed gaskets had a small tear in it.


Problems I am working on now,

it is very very very hard to start when cold. I pump the throttle 4-5 times then leave it at 15-2000 rpm position, but I have to pump and pump and pump to get it going..


Once warm it starts in a half a second...


Any thought?

Does that motor have a choke on it?
If it does , is it functioning properly?

Pumping the throttle does not do anything unless the carbs have some kind of accelerator pump in them like cars did, and I do not believe that old Yamaha has them. But I have never laid my eyes on that motor and carbs.

such a good point about the accel pump. No these carbs do not have accel pump on them... There is a choke and it is working properly. MAybe all my pumping is what is causing the problem.

What is your starting procedure?

how are you using the choke?

Are you moving the fast idle lever up a little and hitting the choke while turning over the motor?

Do you pump the primer bulb until it is firm?

plug in, drop it in, lower motor, pump ball to firm, pump throttle 3-4 times them leave at 40%. Hit choke and turn key.

Repeat till engine starts.

Let it warm up then we are good

Unless the choke plates are closed completely while the motor is turning over it will not do any good.
Make sure everything is adjusted properly and they are closed completely.

got it going, plates needed to be adjusted. Hot starts on a half rotation of the engine.
