Re: she runns great
when they turn loose what do u mean its pressure fit correct and i guess it could crack to thanx guys
If an impeller starts disintegrating the pieces are pumped into the water tube and the waterjacket of the motor leading to blockages that that can cause heat to destroy it. Even should you be fortunate to discover the problem before the engine is cooked trying to get all the pieces out of all the blind passages in tube and waterjacket is one of the worst dilemmas one can encounter with old outboards. And that is why I always suggest that a new impeller is the very FIRST part to be replaced before spending other $ on a rehab. If you spend time and $ reviving an old motor and then allow a bad inpeller to cook it then everything you invested--both time AND $---is lost. It is the best, cheapest and---ultimately---the only insurance you can buy on an outboard!
You're motor is now 45 years old. Do you KNOW beyond any possibility of doubt that it has had a recent waterpump impeller replacement?
If the original impeller is still in place how long do YOU think 45 years old rubber can withstand repeated heat cycles, ozone deterioration and time?
